James 'Jim' Hurd

Listen to Obituary

Born in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, Jim was the son of James and Geraldine (Wells) Hurd. He married the love of his life, Sandra Chinn, February 2, 1968. A dedicated family man, Jim worked as a Boiler Operator at McLouth Steel for over 29 years. He then worked as the Supervisor of Maintenance at the Detroit Medical Center and then with Regency Hospital, retiring in 2012. A member of the United Steelworkers, Jim appreciated the outdoors along with hunting and fishing. He enjoyed gardening, raising chickens and selling eggs, he dabbled in woodworking and making furniture, but his most treasured times were those spent with family, especially his grandchildren. Jim leaves to cherish his memory, Sandra, his wife of the past 49+ years; children: James (Heather) Hurd Jr. of Brownstown, Nickie Hurd of Newport and Holly Hurd of Newport; grandchildren: Hunter, Autumn, Katie, Ethan, Carley, Rickie, Felicitie and Amanda; great grandchildren: Natalie, Edward Jr., Eli and Elizabeth; as well as his siblings: Bob (Nancy) Hurd of South Rockwood, Ron (Debbie) Hurd of Traverse City, Brenda (Ron) Lambrix of Carleton and Barbara Hansen of Brownstown. Sadly he was preceded in death by his parents. Click on the multimedia tab to view Jim's video tribute.
