Abul K. Shamsuddin

Abul K. Shamsuddin was born on May 15, 1944, and passed away on April 12, 2026. He dedicated his life to helping others through his work in medicine. After completing medical school in East Pakistan, he served many years caring for patients in hospitals across New York and New Jersey. Later in his career, he worked in oncology at Wayne State, focusing on caring for those battling cancer. He worked over 25 years at Heritage Hospital in Taylor. 

Abul had a love for tennis, which brought him joy outside of his demanding medical career. He will be remembered as a kind and dedicated person who touched the lives of many.

He is survived by his wife, Gwynne Smith; his nephew, Mohammad Haque; and his caregiver, Amy Lucas, who supported him in his later years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Serajuddin Howlander and Fatima Khatun, as well as three brothers.

A visitation to honor Abul’s life will take place on Thursday, April 16, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The Trenton Chapel - Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, located at 3200 West Rd, Trenton, MI 48183. Abul will lie in state at IAGD from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. A prayer service will begin at 2:00 pm. Burial will take place at White Chapel Cemetery. 

Abul K. Shamsuddin’s commitment to his patients and his family will not be forgotten. He will be missed by those who knew him and loved him.
