Al J. Makarewicz, a devoted family man, Marine veteran, and lover of many pastimes, passed away on July 10, 2026, in Taylor, Michigan, at the age of 82. Born on September 6, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, Al’s life was characterized by a steadfast work ethic, deep love for family, and a spirit of adventure and resilience.

Al proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marines from 1965 to 1968, including a period of service in Vietnam. His time in the Marines demonstrated his dedication, courage, and sense of duty—qualities that would continue to define him throughout his life.

Following his military service, Al contributed his talents to the Department of Defense, further exemplifying his commitment to serving others and his country. His professional journey was marked by integrity and diligence, leaving a lasting impression on all those with whom he worked.

Family was always at the heart of Al’s life. He was married to Patty Makarewicz for nearly 55 years, a union built upon love, loyalty, and shared contentment. Together, they weathered life’s changes and joys, building a legacy that will be cherished by their family forever.


He is survived by his beloved daughter Jacqui Siddall and son-in-law David Siddall, dear son Jerry Makarewicz and daughter-in-law Melissa Makarewicz, cherished daughter Jill Makarewicz, as well as his adored grandsons, Chase (Rachel) Siddall and Dylan Makarewicz.


He was predeceased by his wife Patty, his father Anthony, his mother Josephine, and his grandson Brendan Siddall. Their memories remain an integral part of Al’s story and the enduring love within the family.


Al’s greatest pride was found in his role as a grandfather. He was a loving presence in the lives of his grandchildren; Chase, Brendan, and Dylan. He cherished every moment spent with them and found immense comfort in watching them grow.


Al lived life with a love for simple pleasures. He will be remembered for his love of painting, his enjoyment of both playing and watching golf, shooting pool, swimming at the YMCA, watching TV, garage sales and his propensity for just tinkering around in his garage workshop. These hobbies not only enriched his own life but often brought friends and family together, creating lasting memories.


A memorial Gathering will be held on July 15, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at The Allen Park Chapel - Martenson Family Of Funeral Homes, located at 10915 Allen Rd, Allen Park, MI 48101. A memorial service with military honors will begin at 5:00 PM. Family, friends, and all who knew Al are invited to attend and celebrate his remarkable life.
