Amy Joyce Mullins, née Hertel, passed away peacefully in her beloved hometown of Trenton, Michigan on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. Born on December 5, 1943, Amy’s life was a testament to dedication, community, and quiet strength—qualities that endeared her to all who knew her.
Amy’s journey began in Trenton, where she took her first breath and laid down roots that would nourish a lifetime of service and connection. She pursued nursing school in Port Huron, a reflection of her caring spirit and commitment to helping others. This compassionate nature found expression throughout her career, notably at the 33rd District Court and later at Trenton City Hall, where she worked diligently until her retirement in 2005. Her professional life was marked by unwavering diligence and an earnest desire to contribute meaningfully to her community.
But Amy's impact stretched far beyond her work. Deeply embedded in the fabric of Trenton life, she was a proud member of the Trenton Historical Society, where she cherished preserving the town’s heritage. Her involvement with the New Horizon Club in Trenton and the 55 & Over club in Southgate reflected her love for fellowship and lifelong learning. Amy also found joy and camaraderie in the game of Mahjong, making it more than a pastime but a way to connect and engage with fellow enthusiasts.
Her family and friends were a central pillar in her life. She is survived by her devoted daughter Paula Mullins, who carries forward Amy’s legacy of kindness and resilience. The warmth of her household was often brightened by Mo and Willow, her cherished grand-dogs, companions who brought her daily happiness. Kirsten Cline, a treasured friend, along with other family members and many friends, stood as living testaments to Amy’s ability to forge deep and enduring bonds.
Amy was preceded in death by her loving parents, Arthur and Helen Hertel, whose memory she honored throughout her life. Though they are no longer with us, the values they instilled in Amy continue to shine through the lives she touched.
Visitation to celebrate Amy’s life will be held on March 28, 2026, at The Trenton Chapel - Martenson Family Of Funeral Homes, located at 3200 West Rd, Trenton, MI. Friends and family are invited from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. to come together to honor and remember a woman whose gentle spirit and steady presence enriched our community. Funeral service will be provided at 6:00 pm.
Amy Mullins leaves behind a legacy woven with compassion, community spirit, and steadfast love. Her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her, reminding us all of the power of kindness and dedication. In the hearts of her daughter Paula, her friends, and the many whose lives she touched, Amy’s light will forever gently glow.
