Angie Athens

Angelina “Angie” Athens of Grosse Ile passed away at the age of 90 on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Dr. William Athens, Sr. for 64 years. Devoted mother to Dr. Ellen (Tom Lasky) Athens, Dr. Andy (Dr. Vicki) Athens, Laura (Nick Panas) Athens and Dr. Bill Jr. (Lisa) Athens. Loving Yiayia to Andrew Athens, Alexandra (Dr. Larry) Masarsky, Dr. Christian Athens, Nicolas Mellas, Dr. Alex Athens, Alyssa Athens and Max Athens. She was also a doting Pro-Yiayia to her great grandson Aiden Masarsky. Dear sister to Irene (the late Thomas) Athens and an Aunt to many nieces and nephews. Angie was preceded in death by her sister Margaret (Peter) Otis, her brother Peter (Bernice) Greven, and her brother and sisters-in-law; The late Andrew (the late Louise) Athens, the late Tula (the late Dr. Peter) Georgeson, and the late Mary (the late Michael) Diveris.

Angie was kind, loving and welcoming to everyone. She lived life to the fullest and was a wonderful role model, always happy and optimistic. She enjoyed boating on the Great Lakes, snow skiing and traveling the world. She was a wonderful cook, an avid reader of espionage thrillers and mysteries and lover of Champagne, fine wines and caviar. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. Wherever a beautiful soul has been…a lasting impression remains.

Visitation for Angie will begin on Friday, October 7, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Trenton Chapel of The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes located at 3200 West Road, 48183. The Trisagion will begin at 4:30 p.m. that afternoon. The service will be held the following day at St. George Greek Orthodox Church located at 16300 Dix Toledo Road, Southgate, MI 48195. Service to begin at 10:00 a.m. Following the service, guests will process to Our Lady of Hope Cemetery for Angie’s interment.
