Arthur "Arty" Bartz

Arthur “Arty” Bartz passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026 at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, surrounded by the love of his life, Susie, and his family.

Arty devoted 38 years to Detroit Edison, where he retired as an Underground Line Supervisor. After retirement, he thought he would try to supervise and manage the home and boss Susie around. She wasn't having it and sent him back to work. He found new purpose at the Farmington Public Schools bus garage as a driver, where he devoted more than a decade doing what he loved - bringing joy, passion and dedication to his students and co-workers every single day. Arty was one of the most stubborn and hard headed people you could ever meet, but he put his whole heart and so much love into everything he did, especially when it came to his family.

Arty is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Susie, as well as his daughter Becky Hall (Brett Weaver) and son Brian (Nicole) Diedrich. He was a nurturing, giving and loving Grumpy to his grandchildren, Helena (Conner) Hacker and Riley Diedrich.

Arty was preceded in death by his father, Kurt A. Bartz and his loving mother, Bertha J. Bartz (née Schmidt), as well as sons, Ricky Diedrich and Al Hall.

Arty will be remembered for his love and devotion to his beloved Susie, his love and support for his family, his passion for his work and work ethic, his stories, his wit and sense of humor.

In lieu of flowers, any memorial contributions for Arty will be donated to his favorite charities in his honor.
