Barbara Lynn Mathews

Barbara Lynn Mathews, born on February 16, 1949, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on July 27, 2025. She lived a life marked by love and dedication, both in her personal pursuits and professional career. Barbara worked as an Insurance Specialist for dental companies in the Downriver area, where she was known for her professionalism and caring demeanor.

Barbara was a devoted family member, and her family was her greatest love in life. She cherished the moments spent with her loved ones, creating a warm and nurturing environment for all. She is survived by her beloved son, Daniel Todd (the late Peggy) Mathews; and her daughter, Lori Renee (Scott Howard) McMillan. She was also a proud nana to Ashley Brianna (Lenny), Amanda Elizabeth (Jimmy), and Harrison Scott, and a loving nana to he great grandchildren: Aliyah Rose and Owen Rhett, with another great granddaughter on the way.

Barbara is also survived by her brothers, Alan (Nancy) Tope and Richard (Kathy) Tope. Her legacy extends beyond immediate family, as she is survived by many friends who were touched by her warmth and kindness.

A skilled cook, Barbara will be particularly remembered for her culinary talents, especially her stuffed cabbage, Swiss steak, and city chicken, which brought joy and comfort to those who gathered around her table. Her interests included gardening, spending time with her friends, shopping, and sharing tender moments with her feline companions: Meeko, Beemer, Bootsie, and Mikey.

Barbara joined her husband George Clifford Mathews, Jr. (this August they would have celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage); her son, Brian Clifford Mathews and her parents, Richard and Dorothy Tope, in eternal rest. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

There are no scheduled services.  Memorial contributions to honor her life may be made to the Woodhaven and Trenton Animal Shelter or to the Animal Shelter of the donor's choice.
