Bert Smith, a beloved and dedicated family man, passed away on December 23, 2025, at Hampton Manor of Taylor. Born August 11, 1937, in Highland Park, Michigan, Bert's life was characterized by his devotion to his family and a passion for music and history.

Bert proudly served in the United States Navy Reserves, a commitment that exemplified his dedication to his Country. He enjoyed a fulfilling career, retiring from American Airlines, where he earned the respect of his colleagues and customers alike.

He was an accomplished saxophonist, sharing his talent with others during his high school years and later performing with the United States Navy Band. His love for music not only brought joy to his life.

Family held a central place in Bert's heart. He cherished his role as a father to his daughters, Laura (Tom) Huot and Vicki Smith, and to his son Clarence (Sandy) Sanborn. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Nadine, Nicole, Evan, Olivia, and Katy, who brought immense happiness to his life.

Bert enjoyed working in his yard, finding peace in nurturing his surroundings. He delighted in family vacations, creating fond memories that would last a lifetime. His love of World War II history showcased his deep interest in the past, often engaging in discussions and sharing stories that connected generations.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol Sue (Brainard) Smith; his sister Charmaine; and brothers Ralph, Tom, and Pat, all of whom are remembered fondly in the hearts of those who knew them.

Bert is also survived by his cherished sister-in-law, Donna, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends who will carry his memory forward through the stories they share and the love they continue to express.
