Bill R. Baugess

Billy Richard Baugess, beloved husband, devoted father, caring son, dear brother and dedicated professional, peacefully passed away at his home on Saturday, August 1, 2026. He was born on May 20, 1964, in Trenton, Michigan, a place that shaped many of his early memories and values. Throughout his life, Bill demonstrated a steadfast commitment to service, family, and the betterment of all those around him. After graduating from high school, Bill answered the call to serve his country, embarking on a distinguished 8.2-year tenure in the United States Navy. His time in the Navy instilled in him not only a sense of discipline and responsibility, but also a deep respect for the principles of duty and camaraderie that remained with him always. Following his military service, Bill channeled his skills and passion into a remarkable 34-year career as a Systems Analyst with the Veterans Administration. Colleagues and friends recall his unwavering dedication to supporting veterans, ensuring that those who had served their country were cared for with dignity and respect. One of his proudest professional accomplishments was his instrumental role in the development of the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan—a project that stands as a lasting testament to his devotion to veteran communities.

 Above all, family was the central pillar of Bill’s life. He was profoundly proud of the family he and his wife built and cherished every moment spent together. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Enid Lynne Deere-Baugess; his devoted sons, Eric Anthony Baugess and Marc Devlin Baugess; his mother, Geneva (nee: Fraley) Baugess; and his sisters, Janet (Ron) Fetcko and Shirley (the late Joseph) Chenier. His faithful Chihuahua, Honeybee, and his Labradoodle, Butterfly ever at his side, also remain to remember the warmth and constancy of his companionship. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Richard Ellis Baugess, whose memory was always close to his heart. The family wishes to thank Joshua Q for his care of Billy Outside of his professional and familial commitments, Bill found joy and relaxation in fishing and playing golf—pursuits that allowed him to appreciate life’s simple pleasures. Those who had the privilege of knowing Bill will remember him for his sense of integrity, quiet strength, and the kindness he extended to everyone he met. 

Though his loss is deeply felt, the legacy of love, service, and dedication he leaves behind will continue to inspire and guide all who knew him. Bill’s life was marked by a deep sense of purpose and a heart full of love, and he will be greatly missed. Services will be private and he will be interred at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Memorial contributions to honor his life may be made to the Veterans Service Organization of the donor’s choice.
