Joe returned back to Michigan and went back to work at Great Lakes Steel where he retired in 1987 as a Railroad Engineer. In 1959, Joe’s sisters, Emagene and Sue along with their sister-in-law Marion met Christine Lewis at a department store in Ecorse where Christine worked. Joe’s sisters knew that their brother Joe needed to meet this beautiful southern girl. They married on April 16, 1959, 2 weeks after they first met. It was love at first site. They were blessed to celebrate 63 years of marriage. In 1965, they bought a home in Wyandotte and welcomed their son, Russell April 1960 and in daughter Lisa in October 1966. In 1979 they purchased a piece of land in Lewiston, MI and made a 2nd home there, surrounded by family and always welcomed visitors to stay awhile. They had many come to stay at their little piece of Heaven on earth. After Joe retired, they bought a food truck and traveled to many states serving up southern dishes working side by side, making friends everywhere they went. Through their lives they loved to travel back to their home states of Kentucky and North Carolina, family was always important and they stayed connected. They always had a camper and would often hit bluegrass festivals, making many friends and memories along the way. The most important thing to know about Joe, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and we will see him in Heaven one day. His family was his world and the memories made we will cherish forever. Joe’s favorite Bible verse - John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
