Robert "Bob" Pershing

Robert "Bob" Pershing, a beloved figure in the lives of many, passed away on January 2, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on June 4, 1931, in Terre Haute, Indiana, Bob dedicated over 40 years of his life to inspiring and nurturing the minds and bodies of students as a physical education teacher in the Detroit Public Schools. His passion for teaching and commitment to his students left an indelible mark on countless young lives.

Bob was not only an educator, but also a loving father and grandfather. He found immense pride and joy in his daughters: Ann (Donald) Johnson, Diane (Paul) Brotz, Carol (Ian Canasi) Pershing, and Jennifer (Brian) Neu. They were a source of strength and happiness, embodying his legacy of love and dedication. His grandchildren, Victoria (Don) Zeolla, Joshua (Chelsea) Brotz, Brandon Neu, and Matthew Neu, were the lights of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He enjoyed many years with his longtime companion Ann Morich as well. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends.

Beyond his role as a teacher and father, Bob had a vibrant life full of interests. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and traveling, activities he often shared with his family and friends, creating beautiful memories that will last forever. The joy he found in these pursuits reflected his larger-than-life personality and the love he had for those around him.

Bob's journey was not without its hardships. He faced the loss of his beloved wife, Julie Anne (Dallos) Pershing, his parents Ralph and Louise Pershing, and his brothers Ralph and Ronald Pershing, as well as the loss of his great-grandson Caleb. These losses shaped him, yet he continued to thrive and remain a steadfast source of support and love for his family.

A visitation to celebrate his life will take place at The Allen Park Chapel - Martenson Family of Funeral Homes located at 10915 Allen Road, 48101 on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held the following day on Saturday, January 10, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. A procession to Our Lady of Hope Cemetery for committal prayers will commence after services and Bob will be interred afterwards.

Bob Pershing will be remembered not just for his accomplishments, but for the warmth he exuded, the wisdom he shared, and the unconditional love he offered to those fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives on through his family and the countless lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey.
