Carol Ruth Sutton Nagy Kunz, a loving and accepting soul who touched the lives of so many, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 18, 2023. She was born on October 4, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, as the 8th of 9 children of Oral and Hilda Sutton. Carol's upbringing in the vibrant neighborhood of southwest Detroit laid the foundation for her warm and compassionate character.
Throughout her life, Carol radiated love and acceptance, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to cross her path. Her legacy is beautifully carried on by her daughters, Kim Nagy and Kit Moore, who were the center of her world. Kim Nagy lost her beloved husband, Jerry Pickle, creating an even stronger bond of understanding and support within the family during these times. She is survived by her devoted son-in-law, Joe Moore, who admired and appreciated her unwavering love and support.
Carol's love extended to the next generation, where her two grandchildren, Melissa Moore and Steve Moore, found her to be a source of boundless affection and guidance. She was always available to them, as she became a whiz at emailing back in the early 1990’s and was able to email Stephen in the US Navy and text Melissa by phone. Her great grandson, Camden Moore, brought immense joy to her life, and she relished in the role of great grandmother caring for Camden with warmth and delight over several summers. Their special treat was stopping at Dairy Queen on Fridays for a vanilla cone and a banana split.
Carol's journey through life was marked by love and companionship. She was married for 21 years to John Nagy, a time marked by shared adventures and cherished memories with their two daughters Kim and Kit. After John’s untimely death in 1977, she found companionship with Frank W. Kunz and they married in 1979. Their partnership was a testament to the power of finding understanding and connection in one another. Frank and Carol enjoyed many shared joys playing with their grandchildren, attending their sporting and school events, visiting with friends, weeknight ballroom dancing at Tullio’s LaRiviera in Allen Park, and gardening at their home at Mortenview Farms.
One of Carol's remarkable qualities was her ability to see the beauty in everyone she encountered. Carol was the genealogist of the family and spent many hours researching, writing and cataloging in her treasured hobby. Her nonjudgmental and accepting nature also made her a magnet for friendships, and she effortlessly created connections that lasted a lifetime. Her presence was a comforting embrace, a reminder that one's true worth lies in being genuine and kind.
Carol's memory lives on in the hearts of her daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great grandson, nieces, nephews, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit of acceptance and love will continue to inspire and uplift those who carry her legacy forward.
Visitation to celebrate Carol's life will be held on Tuesday, August 22 at Martenson Funeral Home at 10915 Allen Road, Allen Park, Michigan. The funeral will be at 10:00AM Wednesday, August 23. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to purchase a bench where she will be interred at Cadillac Memorial Gardens in Garden City.
In Carol's honor, let us strive to embrace others with the same open-heartedness and acceptance that she so beautifully embodied. She will remain in our hearts as a beacon of love and kindness forever.
