Carolyn Ann (Sara) Morrin passed peacefully into eternal life on September 15th, 2025, surrounded by her five loving children. She was born in Monroe, MI on February 26, 1944 to Alex and Eleanor (Cherry) Sara. She attended St Mary’s Academy and was President of her class. As lifelong friends, the class of ’62 ladies still gather regularly.
Howard James Morrin swept her off of her feet and they married on September 7th, 1963 spending the next 52 years together. After his service in the Marines at Camp LeJeune, they settled back in Monroe to raise their family.
She went back to school and obtained a degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Michigan University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She was a dedicated teacher at St. Patrick’s Catholic School for her whole career. Her desire to learn and grow as a person was unwavering. She practiced speaking Hungarian up until her last weeks.
She found joy in baking, raising her children, and creating a village for other families. She spent time as a Lamaze and La Leche League Counselor, empowering and supporting women. She also took pride in building community, whether through the schools she taught in, her volunteer groups, or her active involvement in the Catholic church.
Carolyn was a devout parishioner at St Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Monroe, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, lector, and friend to many. She was most passionate about guiding children to experience their Catholic faith through the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. She found purpose in serving her church and community, participating regularly and meaningfully in the sacraments. Her consistent commitment to her faith was reflected in the sincerity of her words, actions and daily habits.
She was deeply committed to every cause she championed. In her retirement years, she became more politically active, looking to unite and uplift rather than divide through her Stronger Together Huddle. She was an active member of the local YMCA, teaching Ai Chi (water Tai Chi), as well as volunteering with many charitable organizations such as God Works, Oaks of Righteousness, and National Catholic Relief Services. She fought for justice and equity, using her voice and her time to lift others up. She was a deep believer in her faith and in humanity.
Carolyn was preceded in death by the love of her life, Howard Morrin in 2015, her parents Alex and Eleanor Sara, and her brother John Sara.
She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Mary Jane (Mike) Watkins of Dearborn Heights, MI, her daughter Christina Morrin of Atlanta, GA, her son Mark (Aimee) Morrin of Chicago, IL, her daughter Holly (Gary) Cramner of Monroe, MI, her son Ryan (Kerri) Morrin of Atlanta, GA, and her daughter Elise Morrin of Monroe, MI. She also leaves behind 5 adored granddaughters: Kayleigh, Lucy, Gillian, Jolie and Grace, as well as many local brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews.
Carolyn Ann Morrin leaves behind a legacy of love, knowledge, and social consciousness that will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a guiding light in the lives of many and will be profoundly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Doctors without Borders and the Public Broadcasting System per her wishes.
