Carolyn June Spradlin, lovingly known as “Nana,” age 82, went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Friday, August 22, 2025 with her girls by her side. She was born on December 5, 1942, the daughter of Glen and June Baker.
Carolyn was the beloved sister of Janice Burris - (William) both deceased, Jesse Baker (Sheila) both deceased, and Mary Helen Mayfield (Dallas – deceased). She was preceded in death by her husbands, Norman Sadler (1961–1986) and James Spradlin 1989 until his passing in 2002. She was the devoted mother of Linda (Robert) Hogge, Sharon (Tom) Heineman, and Susan (Jason) Peazel and Stepchildren James Spradlin (Krista) and Patty Cummings (Robert). She was adored as “Nana” by her grandchildren—Eddie, Carlie (Val), Andrew, Abby, Kyle, Kameron, and Molly—and as “Great-Nana” to Robbie and Stella Joy.
Carolyn began her career as a cashier for the City of Riverview and later earned her certification in tax accounting through H&R Block. She worked diligently preparing taxes from home before opening her own successful accounting businesses in Riverview, Wyandotte, and after retirement in Englewood, Florida. She served as President of the National Association of Tax Preparers and as President of DASH (Domestic Abuse Shelter Home). In addition, she contributed her leadership and service as a member of the Charlotte County Drain Commission and was once part of the Southgate Community Players- a community theatre group.
Faith was the cornerstone of Carolyn’s life. A devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church in Englewood, Florida, she was deeply involved in her church family, frequently opening her home to missionaries, faithfully giving to Christian charities, and dedicating herself to helping the homeless in her community. She lived her faith daily and attended church with steadfast devotion.
Carolyn will be remembered as a hardworking, strong, independent, and beautiful woman of faith who never met a stranger and cherished her friendships along the way. She had the gift of making everyone feel like a lifelong friend and left a legacy of love, service, and unwavering devotion to her family, her community, and to her Savior.
A celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the Trenton Chapel of the Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 3200 West Rd. Trenton, MI 48183, from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
