We are heartbroken to announce the death of our Father, Danny Ray Cisco. He passed away unexpectedly on September 18th at the age of 73, surrounded by family.
He was born to Rush Jr. Cisco and Mary Alice Miller Cisco in Mingo County, West Virginia on January 28th 1949. Danny spent his childhood in the beauty of the Appalachian wilderness, exploring the mountains and hollers, swimming and fishing the Tug River, swinging on grapevines, and playing army in the woods. He would always bring home the prettiest orange wildflowers to his mom. He had a soft spot for animals and once took his pet mouse to school in his shirt pocket.
After graduating from Matewan High school Danny got on a train to Detroit with a little cash and a desire to work in the automotive industry. After stepping out of Michigan Central Station he found a place to rent in Downtown Detroit. He soon was drafted to serve in the United States Army. Part of the 1st Cavalry, he was deployed to Vietnam after basic training at Ft. Knox. There he drove a tank as part of ground artillery and bravely served for 2 years. Proud of his service, he always had on his Vietnam Veterans hat.
Upon returning to the U.S. he went on to begin his 40 year career at Ford Motor Company. He was well known throughout the truck plant for the fun and humor he brought everywhere he went. His loyalty and hard work earned him an award for perfect attendance. He was always dependable and on time for the entirety of his life, taking pride in everything he did. While working full time and raising his family he found the time to earn his Bachelors Degree at Wayne State University.
Danny was a skilled woodworker, fisherman, boater, and could fix just about anything. He loved music, old westerns, banana splits and southern food. He cooked the best pinto beans and cornbread and was famous for his peanut butter fudge. He enjoyed being on his pontoon cruising Lake Erie and the Huron
River with his family. He passed on his love of nature, water and boating to his children and grandchildren. At around 5pm you would find him chatting at his local diners with the many friends he met there. Everyone knew him for his quick wit, humor, great stories and no one could tell a joke like he did. You’d never catch him without an ink pen in his shirt pocket. A true gentleman ever equipped with a lighter, Swiss army knife, and a clean handkerchief. He was always willing to lend a hand and was a joy to spend time with.
It's difficult to express everything that was so wonderful about him in a few paragraphs. As one of his grandkids said “a book couldn't do the man justice.” And that's the truth. He was the anchor that kept us all steady and secure. His love for all of us could fill every river, lake and ocean.
As our dad would say “welp, time to head for the hills.”
Danny is preceded in death by his parents Rush Jr. and Mary, and stepparents Carlos and Ruby Lee.
He is survived by his siblings, Darrell (Kathy), Debbie, and Kelly (Bethany). His children, Jerry (Wendy), Stephanie (Vince), Stacey (Elliot) and Ricky (Kristin). His grandchildren, Meghan (Tristan), Jake, Tyler, Halie (Joey), Colin, Kai, Wyatt, Linnaeus, Magnus, Oscar, Ezra and Owen. His nephews and nieces, Bobby (Sue),Kyle, Craig, Peyton, Danielle and Kelsey.
Full Military Honors Burial will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI at a future date.
