David Louis Blanton, a man whose generous spirit and joyful heart touched the lives of all who knew him, passed away peacefully at his home in Trenton, Michigan, on March 31, 2026. Born on February 14, 1969, in Lincoln Park, Michigan, David was raised in Southgate, where he cultivated the warmth and kindness that defined his character throughout his life.

A proud graduate of Trenton High School, David carried with him a lifelong love of sports, particularly hockey and University of Michigan football. His passion for hockey extended beyond his own play in high school; he became a well-known referee within the Downriver communities, sharing his love of the game and fostering camaraderie among players and fans alike. Beyond the rink, David was known as an active member of his community, proudly serving in the Southgate Kiwanis Club and contributing to the preservation of local history through his involvement with the City of Southgate Historical Society.

David’s career as a Human Resources Representative for a non-profit organization mirrored the generous nature that was evident in every aspect of his life. An extremely giving and happy man, he delighted in practical jokes and found joy in the Christmas season, a time when his love of gift-giving shone most brightly. Those who knew him well understood that David’s true pride and joy were his family—his greatest accomplishment and the center of his life.

A devoted member of GracePoint Church in Riverview, David loved the Lord with his whole heart and lived his faith through kindness and community service. His enduring commitment to his church family was evident to all who shared in his journey of faith.

David is survived by his beloved children: Austin Blanton (Chenxi Xu), Katie Blanton, and Stephen Blanton (Leila); his loving father, Norman Blanton; and his siblings Marc (Angie) Blanton, Amy (Dave) Schultz, and Kristie (Chad) Walters. He also leaves behind his nieces, nephews, and many other cherished family members and friends. His beloved dogs, Archie and Kal, along with his grand pets Rosie, Wednesday, Gingie, and Cece, remain a testament to his tender heart and affectionate nature. He will also be missed by his daughter-in-law’s parents, Lihong and Xingtao. David was preceded in death by his loving mother, Sharon Lee Blanton (Wright) and his grandparents, Ira Leroy Wright and Thelma Jean Wright
