Dolores M. Dorr died July 22 in Barrington, Illinois. She was 93 and had lived on Grosse Ile for much of her life.
Dolores was born in 1932, in Center Line, Michigan, the daughter of Clara and John Dorr. The family later moved to Hickory Island, where Dolores and her four siblings grew up, and then to Grosse Ile, where she was an active member of the community for more than 70 years. She worked in a variety of positions for the U.S. Navy and the U.S. government, including stints at the GSA and the EEOC.
After she retired, she was a caregiver for her mother, while staying active in Sacred Heart Parish and the Grosse Ile Historical Society. She loved to garden, to travel and to play a wide variety of games; she also loved sharing jokes and spending time with her family. She was a thoughtful sister, a fun and generous aunt, and a loyal friend, and was proud to be a longtime resident of Grosse Ile.
She is survived by her sister Jeanne Kozain, of Titusville, Florida; nine nieces and nephews; thirteen great-nieces and nephews; thirteen great-great nieces and nephews; and dear friends Marian and Ed Sidor and family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Mildred Fogarty, Arline Hoban, and Jack Dorr.
A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, August 23 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Anne Chapel of Sacred Heart Parish on Grosse Ile. Gifts can be made in Dolores’ memory to the Grosse Ile Historical Society or the Grosse Ile Nature and Land Conservancy.
