Donnie Gene Medley, born March 12, 1945, passed away on April 2, 2026.
Donnie was born in Alpine, Alabama, to Samuel Sicero Medley and Cecile Gertrude (Clemmons) Medley. He was the third of four children, growing up alongside his older brother, Clifford Samuel Medley, his older sister, Ruby Mae Medley (Ancel) Norris and younger sister, Oma Lou Medley (Herbert) Norris.He is preceded in death by his father, mother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother, sister and his beloved brother-in-law, Herbert Norris. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna, younger sister Oma, dear brothers-in-law, Ancel Norris and Darwin (Nancy)Nelson, his children, grandchildren, great-granchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Donnie shared a life of love and devotion with his loving wife of 60 years, Donna Kay Nelson. Together, they built a family that became the center of his world. He was a proud and loving father to his daughters, Deanna Kay Medley Calleja (Anthony) and Debra Jean Medley Freitas (Neil).
Nothing brought Donnie more joy than his grandchildren, who gave him a renewed spirit and deeply profound happiness. He was the proud granddaddy of five granddaughters: Medley Ann Calleja Branstator (Brandon), Meadow Avangelista Calleja, Madison Joy Freitas (Warren Mills), McKenna Juliette Freitas, and Maya Jean Freitas. His heart was especially delighted by his three precious great-grandsons, James Michael Branstator, Keegan Douglas Calleja-Hall, and Walker Hudson Branstator, who brought him immense pride and joy.
Donnie loved his God and lived a life rooted in faith. He dedicated himself in service to church, family, and friends. He practiced compassion and generosity toward loved ones and strangers alike. He served his congregation faithfully as a Deacon for several years and as an Elder for 35 years, always with great care, humility, and love.
Professionally, Donnie was a Millwright out of Local 1102 for over 50 years. He loved his work and took great pride in a job well done. His ability to solve problems and his strong work ethic made him a valued asset to Commercial Contracting Corporation, a role that brought him deep satisfaction. He was known for his loyalty, integrity, and dependability.
Donnie lived with a forgiving heart. He did not hold grudges and approached life with quiet strength, kindness, and grace.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Those who knew him take comfort in believing that he touched their lives in a meaningful and positive way—just as he would have hoped.
Visitation will be held on April 11th from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a service at 7:00 p.m., at Martenson Funeral Home in Allen Park, Michigan. A private burial service will be held on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, Donnie would be honored by donations to the Allen Park Church of Christ.
His legacy of faith, hard work, and quiet kindness will live on in all who knew and loved him.
