Listen to Obituary

Douglas Walter Gray, age 75 of Riverview, born on September 13, 1950, sadly passed away in Royal Oak on Thursday, March 5, 2026. Father to Shawn (Yolanda) Gray, Shane (Chris) Gray, and Shannon (Chris) Rogers. Grandfather to Alex Gray and Adam Giammarusti. Oldest brother to Gina (Jeff) Matthews and Randy (Teresa) Gray. Ex-husband and friend to Pam Johnson, the mother of his children. Sadly, he was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Edna "Gladys" Gray.

Douglas proudly served for United States Army during Vietnam War. He retired from Ford after 38 years and was a lifelong member of the city of Riverview. He loved cruising around the city on his motorcycle, which was something he took great pride in. He was an avid lover of music from all genres, even loving movie musicals. He enjoyed his family getting together where everyone would play instruments and singing. He enjoyed being outdoors and never passed up the opportunity to start a campfire. He loved to saw and whittle the wood by hand for his campfires as he taught himself a craftsman. He loved watching the birds and feeding the squirrels, never caring how much money he spent on bird seed and unsalted peanuts. He was a sweet tooth through and through and you could never trust to leave your cookie around him! Despite his tough facade, he deeply worried for and cared for his loved ones. If one of us didn't come home from walking up to the store in usual time, he would hop in his truck and drive around the neighborhood looking for us. If one of us abruptly left the house and walked by foot somewhere, he would wait at the door until we were home, expressing genuine worry. Moments like those reflected the softness he had inside of him and it was comforting to know that if something bad happened, he would always come running.
