Edward Mierkowicz

Edward Mierkowicz of Wyandotte was born on March 5, 1924 in Wyandotte and died on May 19, 2017 at American House Senior Living in Rochester Hills; he was 93. Beloved husband of the late Kathryn and the late Janette. Loving dad of Linda Edwards, Brenda Schervish, Lisa (Mike) Mayra, the late Tom Tiefer and the late Kip Tiefer. Proud grandpa of James Edwards, Maria Kathryn Schervish, Michelle Anne Schervish, Nina (Rich) Kelly, Sarah (Carlos) Farias, Nicholas (Kristine) Mayra and Jeffrey (Lesley) Mayra. Great grandpa of Izzy Kelly, Crosby Kelly, Griffin Farias, Noah Mayra, Koen Mayra, Maggie Mayra, Emmerson Mayra and Holden Mayra. He was preceded in death by his parents Ignatius and Helen (nee: Slumski) Mierkowicz, one brother Joe and one sister Clara. Edward was a graduate of Roosevelt High School who proudly served his Country in the United States Army. He was an excellent all-around athlete who played for the Detroit Tigers and he continued to play baseball for many years after his professional career; he also loved golf and football as well as other sports. A memorial gathering will be on Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 10 am until the time of the memorial service which will begin at 11:30 am both at The Trenton Chapel of The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 3200 West Rd., Trenton. Fr. David Lesniak from St. Timothy Catholic Church in Trenton and The Downriver Veterans Honor Guard will participate in the memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made as the donor chooses. I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one, I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when day is gone. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times, and laughing times, and bright and sunny days.
