Edward Yean Hung Young of Grosse Ile, Michigan, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Edward was born on April 24, 1937, in Guangzhou, China, to his father, Sing Kit Yeung, and mother, Po Shue Ng. He was also gifted with two sisters, Ena and Cissy. After Edward’s childhood in Hong Kong and Macau, he left for Australia to start an education in engineering. After settling on civil engineering as his interest, he made his way to Windsor, Ontario, and finally finished his degree at the Detroit Institute of Technology. His early career took him to Trenton, Michigan, where he worked as an assistant engineer at the City of Trenton. Fate struck at the City of Trenton, he met Mary Tobasco, his "sweetie," whom he would be married to for 55 years. From this marriage, they would have two children, Christina and Ryan, and two grandchildren, Sevaste and Cyril. In 1982, Edward took an international assignment in Cairo, Egypt, where he worked on wastewater infrastructure projects for approximately three years. This career move afforded the family the opportunity to travel the world and establish many lifelong friendships. At the end of this assignment, he formed the engineering consulting firm Tucker, Young, Jackson, Tull, based in Detroit. The firm contributed to innumerable infrastructure projects throughout the Metro Detroit area. He retired from his career in 1999 and moved on to his hobbies and pet projects, like his beloved koi pond, card playing, and a wide variety of DIY projects to make life more interesting and easier.
Edward was a one-of-a-kind individual. Among his many character attributes, he was always welcoming, a jokester, and a storyteller. He always made sure everyone was having a good time. Ed was an avid player in the stock market, and had his obligatory 4 o’clock Johnny Walker Black at market close.
Edward is survived by his wife of 55-years, Mary Jane Young, daughter Christina Mitsopoulos, son Ryan Young, grandchildren Sevaste Mitsopoulos and Cyril Mitsopoulos, son-in-law Jeff Mitsopoulos, and grandpuppies Marvin and Ruben.
Memorial contributions to honor Edward's life may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
