Eleanor M. Manard

Eleanor M. Manard February 13, 1928-December 21, 2020 Eleanor M. Manard was born February 13, 1928 in River Rouge, Michigan. Eleanor was the daughter of the late Harold J. and Estelle (Santamour) Cheetam Sr. After graduating from River Rouge High School Eleanor moved to Newport, Michigan where she met the love of her life, Lowell F. Manard. Eleanor had been employed by Associated Office Supply and later in the office at Monroe Auto Equipment. Eleanor and Lowell were married at St. Charles Church, Newport, on February 19, 1955. From that union came two daughters, Roxanne and Marlene, who feel blessed to have had Lowell and Eleanor as parents. Sadly, Lowell preceded her in death on February 29, 2008 after 53 years of marriage. Eleanor was an immaculate and wonderful homemaker. When you walked around Eleanor’s home you would be struck by the fact that everything was in place and dust was unheard of. Eleanor enjoyed and was a great cook, baker and fresh vegetable canner. Above all Eleanor’s family was her number one priority and she enjoyed nothing more than when the family was together. Eleanor was known for being kind-hearted and having a great sense of humor. Eleanor M. Manard passed away peacefully and with her daughters by her side on December 21, 2020 at Fountain View of Monroe. Eleanor had a strong will to live and proved it many times in her later years by hanging on when those around her thought the end was near. Unfortunately, her last battle was too much to overcome. Eleanor is survived by her two loving daughters, Roxanne (Bucky) Brooks of Monroe and Marlene (Bill) Bies of Carleton, six cherished grandchildren, Jason (Bridget) Manard, Jennifer (Craig) Reed, Ryan (Scott Wurst) Brooks, Craig (Brittany) Mittendorf, Derek (Marisa) Mittendorf and Marc (Felicia F.) Mittendorf and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Richard (Joyce) Cheetam and a sister-in-law Margaret Cheetam. In addition to Lowell and her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Harold J. Cheetam Jr. The family wants to express a heartfelt thank you and admiration for all of the caregivers at Fountainview of Monroe for the compassionate care our mother has received during her time there. We would also like to thank Tim with Heartland Hospice for his kindness and concern for us and our mother at the end. Due to covid private services will be held at the Allore Chapel-Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, followed by burial at St. Charles Newport cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Research Hospital.
