Eugene E. Matyaszek, a beloved member of his family and community, was born on August 14, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, and passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, in the same city. He was known for his unwavering strength and independence, coupled with a warm understanding that made him a pillar of support for those around him. Eugene dedicated much of his life to his career as a millwright for General Motors Co., where he utilized his skills and dedication to contribute to the industry.
A proud veteran, Eugene served in the United States Army, exemplifying a strong sense of duty and patriotism. His military service marked a significant chapter in his life, one that he cherished and spoke of with pride.
Eugene's personality shone brightly through his many passions. He was an avid hunter, finding joy in the outdoors and the thrill of the chase. His ability to face life's challenges while remaining humble endeared him to friends and family alike.
Eugene is survived by his devoted son, Stephen (Margaret) Matyaszek, and his loving daughter, Michelle Matyaszek. He cherished each of his grandchildren: Harvey Oliver III, Ashlie Oliver, Jordan Neal, Justin Neal, Brittney Neal, Courtney Matyaszek, Amy Meddings, Amanda Matyaszek, Stephen Matyaszek Jr., Chet Kelly, and Tabitha Kelly. Additionally, he was a proud great-grandfather to, Ariana, Ashtyn, Amaryllis, Micah, Oaklee, Averleigh and Camryn.
Eugene also leaves behind his sisters: Joann, Juanita, Janet, and DeeDee. He held a special place in his heart and remained close with his former spouse Kathryn.
Eugene joined Harvey and Ashlie Oliver; his two grandchildren that preceded him in death.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Eugene's remarkable life. A visitation will be held at The Allen Park Chapel - Martenson Family Of Funeral Homes in Allen Park, Michigan, on September 18, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A funeral service will take place on September 19, 2025, at the same location at 11:00 AM, followed by interment at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, at 12:00 PM with Military Honors.
Eugene's legacy will continue to live on through his family, whose love for him remains steadfast. He will be remembered for his humor, kindness, and the strong values he imparted to his loved ones. His presence in their lives will be deeply missed but cherished forever.
