Fernando "Chico" Montero, born on January 8, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on February 1, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. He lived a wonderful life full of joy and happiness and leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion.
Chico worked tirelessly at Wolverine Packing for many years to ensure he provided the absolute best life he could for his family. He worked many long hours and sacrificed, all for the people he loved most.
He cherished 49 years of marriage to his beloved wife Leslie, with whom he shared countless memories, laughter, and unwavering support. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Dr. Meredith Montero Brandt and her husband David, and Nando Montero, who brought immense joy and pride into his life. As a grandfather, he delighted in the company of his grandchildren, Madeline and William, who were the apples of his eye and the essence of his joy.
Chico was more than just a devoted family man; he was an avid golfer and a passionate supporter of the University of Michigan sports teams. His enthusiasm for life was contagious, inspiring all those around him to share in his love for the game and the excitement of each season.
He is also survived by his dear sisters, Guadalupe Montero and Nereida Ramos, who cherished their bond and the heartfelt memories created over the years. Chico remembered his late sister, Carmen Montero, and his late brother, William Montero, with love and fondness, carrying their spirit with him throughout his life. He is furthermore survived by many other dear family members who will carry his love in their hearts.
The visitation to honor Chico's life will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Trenton Chapel - Martenson Family of Funeral Homes located at 3200 West Road, 48183. There will be a rosary held that same evening at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. Friends and family are welcome to gather in remembrance and celebrate the love and happiness Chico brought to so many. A final farewell and committal service will take place on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Cemetery located in Brownstown Twp., where he will rest peacefully.
Chico’s memory will remain alive in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be sorely missed, always loved, and never forgotten.
