Florence Lena Coleman, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, in Riverview, MI. Born on February 23, 1941, in Detroit, she lived a life rich with love, laughter, and cherished moments. Florence was the daughter of Italian immigrants, and her cultural heritage infused her home with vibrant traditions and warmth.
She graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in Wyandotte, upon graduating she worked for governor Swainson in Detroit. She met a dashing young man, got married had children. She stayed home to be a loving wife and mother. When her children were of school age, she worked and retired from the Riverview public schools, where she was a reading para professional. Florence's greatest joy came from her family. She enjoyed reading, treasured trips to the cottage, and above all, spent countless wonderful hours with her grandchildren. Her vibrant presence will forever be missed by those who knew and loved her.
Florence was not only a devoted mother to her three children, Nina (Frank) Liberati, Nick (Stephanie) Coleman, and Rick (Melissa) Coleman, but also a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren; Nicolo (Rachel) Liberati, Nicole Coleman, Kelsey Coleman, Anthony James Coleman, Trevor (Hannah) Coleman and to the late Angelo Liberati and a great-grandmother Elora Coleman. Her family was her heart, and her love for them resonated in every aspect of her life. She took immense pride in raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren, and her legacy will undoubtedly live on through them. Also survived by her sister JoAnn (Robert) Forde and her sister-in-law, Marguerite Sclafani.
As a community-minded individual, Florence was past president of the Downriver Italian American Club and a faithful member of St. Cyprian Catholic Church, where she actively participated in the Women's Guild. Her commitment to community service exemplified her caring nature and respect for others. She touched many lives with her kindness and warmth.
Florence is preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents; one brother; Salvatore; and a grandson, whose absence she felt deeply. Though her physical presence is no longer with us, her spirit remains alive in the hearts of her family and friends.
Florence Lena Coleman will be remembered not only for her devotion to her family but also for her indomitable spirit and her unwavering faith. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, love, and strength that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
