Frederick Michael Ankney Jr., age 100 and a World War II veteran, was born on December 12, 1924 in Sturgis, Michigan, peacefully passed away on August 16, 2025. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather and great grandfather. Frederick was preceded in death by his wife Helen; parents Cecil and Frederick Ankney Sr. As well as a brother Patrick and two sisters Margaret and Francis “Suzie”, as well as daughter-in-law Marlene and son-in-law Robert. Survived by a brother Dennis (Marjorie). Mr. Ankney spent the majority of his working life as an Auto Mechanic, lastly employed at Dick Genthe Chevrolet in Southgate.
He was in the Army from 1943-1946, stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Frederick leaves behind his children: Michael, Pamela, Sally (Rick) and Theresa; grandfather of John, Jason, Heather, Riley, Ryan and Avery; great grandfather to Drea, River, Sebastian and Winston. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Lola. Frederick will be missed by many.
He enjoyed working on cars, Detroit Tigers Baseball and taking car rides.
Cremation will take place following a Mass of Resurrection. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Ferndale Cemetery.
