Freeman I. Sims, 78 of Grosse Ile, Michigan passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025. A beloved husband, father, poppa, brother and friend, he was born on January 05, 1947 in Trenton, Michigan to Arthur and Thelma Sims.
Freeman devoted an impressive 46 years of his career as a machinist at Great Lakes Steel, where he became known not just for his craftsmanship but for his unwavering work ethic. Beyond his work achievements, Freeman’s legacy is profoundly marked by his courageous service in the United States Army, where he honorably served in Vietnam. A double Purple Heart recipient he exemplified bravery, courage and
commitment to his country and fellow service members. Freeman is deeply cherished by his loving wife, Arlene, with whom he spent 55 wonderful years of marriage. Together they raised twin daughters, Erica Sims and Christina (Lawrence) Reeve, who will continue to carry on his legacy of love and strength. As a poppa, he delighted in spending time with his grandsons, Avery and Reagan Reeve, and his granddaughter, Charlie Reeve, creating memories that will be forever cherished.
He is also survived by his siblings, William, Jacqueline, Russell (Collen) and Patricia (Alexander) along with many nieces and nephews, who will forever cherish the memories of their Uncle Freeman. Freeman’s life will be honored with a visitation on September 26, 2025, from 3pm-8pm at the Trenton Chapel-Martenson Family Funeral Homes, located at 3200 West Rd, Trenton, Mi. Burial will take place at Grosse Ile Memorial Cemetery on September 27, 2025, at 11am
Freeman will be forever remembered as a loving family man, a dedicated worker and a military veteran who wore his pride with grace. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the ALS Association, honoring Freeman’s courageous battle.
