Gary Dwayne Harrah, a loving husband, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dedicated servant to his community, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on December 8, 2025. Born on October 13, 1941, in Victor, West Virginia, he was the son of Hilton and Kathleen (Thomas) Harrah. Gary married the love of his life, Carolyn Nutter, on July 15, 1961. Gary lived a life rich with love, dedication, and music.

Gary devoted over 30 years of his professional life to Monsanto, where he worked tirelessly in maintenance and earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues before retiring in 1993. However, it was his calling as a pastor at Grace Missionary Baptist Church Wyandotte that truly showcased his impact on countless lives. For over 18 years as Pastor, he enriched the spiritual lives of many, serving as a beacon of faith. As a Music Director and Choir Director for over 40 years, his passion for music touched the hearts of many.

His service to the nation began earlier in his life when he proudly served in the United States Navy. As a talented trumpet player with the Navy Band, he shared his musical gift while maintaining a deep sense of duty and patriotism that would carry through his entire life.

Gary's legacy will continue to live on through his loving family. He leaves to cherish his memory, Carolyn, his wife of the past 64 years; his daughters, Julie (John) Pool and Kelli (Scott) Timmons, and his son, Gary Keith Harrah. He was blessed with five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to his life.

In addition to his immediate family, Gary is also survived by his siblings, Larry (Irene) Harrah, Jack Harrah, Roger Harrah, and Judy Uhland, who will miss him dearly. While he has left this world, he joins his beloved parents, who predeceased him, in eternal peace.

A celebration of Gary’s remarkable life will be held at The Ford Chapel - Martenson Family Of Funeral Homes in Rockwood, Michigan. Visitation will take place on December 12, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life on December 13, 2025, starting at 11:00 AM. Burial will be Monday at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in West Virginia.

Gary Dwayne Harrah will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his passion for music, and his deep love for his family, community and abroad. His gentle spirit and kind heart have left an indelible mark on all who knew him. The love of the Lord truly shined through him.
