Gary W. Rice, a devoted family man, passed away on November 17, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on April 5, 1947 to Doris Pearl Martin and Wilburn Elwood Rice.
Gary was the loving husband of Kim Rice, with whom he celebrated 44 years of marriage on November 7. He was a caring dad to Tami Dawson (the late Joel), Sheri Devlin (Jim), Bryan Rice (Jennifer), and Sara (Dennis "D.J") Orban. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Gennifer Brumo (Mike), Jamie Galvan (Ramiro "Rami"), Brooklynn Rice, Morgan Rice, Brent Orban, Nancy Orban, Kyle Orban, and the late Kelli Dawson. Gary was also a proud great grandpa to Sofia Brumo, Millie Brumo, Olivia Brumo, and Silas Galvan. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Jack Webb, niece, Jodi Vogeli, and many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his family, Gary's interests included reading, walking his dogs, hiking and exploring the outdoors, and being an avid fan of U of M football and hockey. He found joy in sharing these passions with his loved ones.
Gary dedicated many years of his life to his career at General Motors as a hardworking millwright. He was a proud high school graduate who cherished the importance of family and held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his family, including his children and grandchildren, and will be deeply missed. He was predeceased by his parents, Doris Pearl Martin and Wilburn Elwood Rice, as well as his sister, the late Gail Webb, and his nephew, Jason Webb.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The Allen Park Chapel - Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, located at 10915 Allen Rd, Allen Park, MI, 48101. A funeral service will follow that same day, starting at 6:00 PM and concluding at 7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association in memory.
