The much-loved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, George Read, 93, of Trenton, Michigan passed away peacefully July 24, 2025 with family present. He had calmly confronted complications arising from Parkinson’s over the past two years.

George was the sixth child, born at home June 4, 1932 on Lewis Avenue in Toledo, Ohio to John and Geraldine Read. He resided in Toledo, until 1967 and then Gibraltar and Trenton, Michigan for the past 57 years. He graduated from DeVilbiss High School and became a journeyman tool and die maker while working for Kaiser Jeep in Toledo and Ford Woodhaven Stamping plant in Michigan from where he retired in 1987.

George is survived by the ones he loved, raised and influenced: Wife Louise, children David (wife Jeanne), Laura (husband Thomas R. Shonk), Thomas and Jeffrey (wife, Mary), granddaughter Kristin (spouse Kodi Sander), grandsons Thomas J. Shonk, Grant Read, Nicholas Read (wife Kylee), Alex Read and Andrew Read, and great-grandchildren Adley and Ember Sander.

As the second youngest child, George was preceded in death by his first wife, Irma and all six of his siblings - Roger, Harriet, Nellie, John, Geraldine, Mary and David.

George was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church of Trenton, encouraged his family in faith, was well-read with current and historical events, and enjoyed staying fit with proper nutrition and daily exercise.

He led an active life by participating in various sports including racquet ball, water and snow skiing, hiking, biking, roller blading to age 85, daily exercise and as organizer and active participant in the Trenton-based senior tennis league until age 90.

He and wife Louise cherished traveling for history, scenery and wildlife through the US, Canada, Europe, and the Caribbean. Together they loved spending time, camping, vacationing and being involved with their children and grandchildren.

Our dearly loved is now at rest in heaven. Please continue to remember the good times had with him, the things he taught us and his positive influence.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the fund of choice at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Trenton or to the Parkinson's Foundation .
