Listen to Obituary

George Uram, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and faithful servant of the Lord, was welcomed into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. George passed away peacefully at his home in Trenton, Michigan, on October 8, 2025, at the age of 85. George lived a life rich in love, adventure, and purpose—a legacy fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Born on November 22, 1939, George graduated from Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte, Class of 1958, where he played hockey and formed lifelong friendships. During the 1950s and 1960s, he worked in the family business, Wyandotte Sporting Goods, where his love for sports and community began to flourish.

Shortly after high school, George met and married the love of his life, Sharen Lee Fitzgerald, a proud alumna of St. Joseph and St. Patrick schools in Wyandotte. Their journey together began on June 1, 1963, and spanned more than six decades of devotion and partnership. George worked for the Wayne County Road Commission and the Wayne County Water Treatment Plant, where he was known for his dedication and integrity.

George’s journey through life was marked by deep passions and enduring relationships. His life was deeply rooted in the outdoors. A gifted storyteller and avid outdoorsman, he found peace in nature and joy in sharing it with others. Whether boating, hunting, or fishing, George’s adventures were always accompanied by a deep respect for wildlife—an appreciation he lovingly passed on to his children. Through countless shared experiences in the woods and on the water, he instilled in them not only a reverence for nature but also a sense of wonder, patience, and stewardship that continues to guide them. He formed close friendships with wildlife and waterfowl artists and was a tireless advocate for conservation to protect habitat for all wildlife with a special focus on waterfowl.

He was a founding member of the Downriver, Monroe, and Dearborn chapters of Ducks Unlimited, and a long-time member of Pointe Mouillee Waterfowlers, the Wayne County Sportsman Club, and other local and national organizations dedicated to preserving the Great Lakes region. Over the years, George earned numerous awards for marksmanship, reflecting both his skill and his commitment to the sporting community. While not as active in recent years due to health, George remained deeply connected to the causes and communities. His early and ongoing contributions left a lasting impact, and his legacy lives on in the conservation efforts he helped shape.

Even in retirement, George remained active, working part-time at Gander Mountain and West Marine. He loved sharing his knowledge and passion for the outdoors, mentoring others, and building lasting friendships.

Above all, George was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Sharen Lee (Fitzgerald) Uram, their son Daniel (Lori) Uram, daughter Julie (Carl) Missler, and grandchildren Chase and Kaitlyn Missler. George was immensely proud of his family and found immeasurable joy in his grandchildren, whose laughter, curiosity, and love brought light to his days and meaning to his years. His greatest legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the values he passed down through generations.

George is also lovingly remembered by his sisters Sandra (the late Jay) Janiszewski and Marcia (Andrew) Vyletel, sister-in-law Barbara Fitzgerald, and many beloved relatives who held a special place in his heart. Among them are his nieces and nephews, Jeff, Sis, Tim, Greg & Brenda, Mike, Miles II, and Gerri, his cousins, including Geraldine and Jeannette, many great-nieces and great-nephews, and extended family members—including the “Pennsylvania Urams” and the Gogolowskis— all of whom meant so much to him. George’s life was enriched by countless friends, including those from his close-knit neighborhood, who will carry forward his legacy of warmth, laughter, and generosity.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Mary (Nowacki) Uram; his brother Mark Uram; brothers-in-law Miles Fitzgerald and Gerry Fitzgerald; and Rusty, his beloved Golden Retriever who was always by his side. Their memories live on in the stories George so lovingly shared—stories that continue to echo in the hearts of those who loved him.

The world has lost a remarkable man—a devoted husband, nurturing father and grandfather, passionate conservationist, and true friend. His memory will live on in every tale retold, every outdoor adventure cherished, and every act of kindness inspired by his life.

Everyone who knew George has a story or two to tell—whether it was a moment about hunting, fishing, art, a laugh exchanged over coffee, or a quiet conversation that left a lasting impression. His life touched so many, and the family warmly invites you to visit George’s online guestbook and tribute wall to share your memories, stories, and reflections. Whether it’s a funny anecdote, a cherished photo, or a simple note of remembrance, your contributions will help weave together the rich tapestry of George’s life. They are creating a family history and would love to preserve as many voices and moments as possible—each one a meaningful thread in the legacy he leaves behind.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 4:00 p.m., at the Trenton Chapel of The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, located at 3200 West Road, Trenton, MI 48183.
