Gisela Bayko

Gisela Bayko passed away unexpectedly Friday, November 11th, 2022 at the

age of 86. Gisela was born February 7, 1936. She grew up on a farm in Kaiserslautern, Germany with her parents and 12 siblings. She would often recount her time growing up in Germany with such a large family and working in a clothing factory to help support her family.

She met her husband, Wasyl Bayko, in 1954 in Germany at a carnival while Wasyl was serving in the US Army. In 1955, the two married in Gisela’s childhood home and immigrated to the United States shortly after residing briefly in Lincoln Park before settling in Taylor, Michigan. They were married for 66 years. The two were each other’s lifelong companions and best friends. Together they had three beautiful children Anne, William, and Doris. The two shared many hobbies some of which include: bartending and cooking together at the Germania Club in Brownstown, Michigan, visiting the German American Festival in Oregon, Ohio, visiting Frankenmuth, attending Sunday church services and traveling home to Europe. Gisela dedicated her life to her family spending many years as a homemaker. In her free time she loved spending time with family, friends, and her dog Fritzy. She enjoyed talking on the phone with friends and going to the casino.

Gisela is survived by her children, William (Cindy) Bayko and Doris (Gary) Frommann; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Wasyl, daughter Anne, and her dog Gypsy.

Gisela will be especially remembered for her fiery spirit and ability to make us laugh. She has touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all of us.
