Godelieve Rosemarie Rummel
February 3, 1926 - October 19, 2022
Godelieve is gardening with the angels in heaven after a lifetime of quiet service to others. She grew up in very humble
beginnings on the east side of Detroit and derived great joy in doing a good deed for someone every day. Whether for
family, friends, neighbors, or strangers on the other side of the world, Godelieve was always sowing seeds of kindness
and generosity. These germinated and blossomed into friendships, love, and respect for her by all who were touched by
her huge, kind, thoughtful, considerate, and giving heart. Her wit and wisdom will be greatly missed.
In her younger days, Miss Godelieve was a bookkeeper and her favorite job was at Kelly Springfield Tire. There she met
Robert, her husband with whom she shared over 53 years of happiness. After marrying, she left that position to become a
full-time homemaker, creating a nurturing and beautiful environment for her husband and only daughter Mona, where
family and friends were always welcome. She was a professional seamstress and sewed all of her daughter’s dresses,
embellishing them with hand smocking and embroidery. The bond she created with her daughter was more that of an
older sister than a mother. Together they would garden, go horseback riding, design dresses and she was the willing
chauffeur for Mona and her friends to many activities and events. They even worked on remodeling projects together as a
great team. Godelieve was truly a loving mother and the best friend, confidant, and cheerleader a daughter could ever
dream of.
With her exuberant sense of adventure, she flew within the United States along with her mother and brothers, or traversed
the highways and byways of the country with Robert and their canine companions Goldie and later Missy in their motor
home and by train.
She will be missed greatly. However, Godelieve’s passing is her passport to a pain-free eternal life where she may soar
on unfettered wings and be reunited with those who have gone before her.
She is survived by only child Mona Elise (and devoted son-in-law Jim Bryson) and multiple nieces and nephews.
Godelieve is preceded in death by her husband Robert; parents, Lucie and Firmin Vaneecke; sisters and brothers: Marie
Daniels (Ray); Joseph Vaneecke; A. David Vaneecke; Sister Danile Vaneecke; and nephew Paul Daniels.
Despite her passion for flowers, it was Godelieve’s wish that family and friends please consider a donation in her name to
the Capuchin Monastery in Detroit, Michigan so that others may be served.
