Gonzalo Gonzalez

Gonzalo Gonzalez age 98 of Detroit, MI, passed away peacefully in his home March 18, 2023. Beloved husband of the late Elena. Father to Gonzalo (Lorri), the late Nellie (Troy), the late Rene, Mary Elena (the late Santiago), Sylvia (Jose Luis), the late Ricardo (Josephine), Diana (Carlos), and Ruben (Yvette). Predeceased by brothers Beto and Mero. Brother of Lina and Mela. Grandfather of 13, great-grandfather of 12, and uncle/great uncle to many nephews and nieces.

Gonzalo immigrated from Mexico to Texas, then settled in Michigan. He was a proud man and attained the American dream of owning a home followed by becoming a small business owner. He had an impeccable work ethic and was an inspiration to so many who knew him. He worked home and business projects well into his 90s. His brother would say, “Tu padre, busca trabajo!”

Gonzalo also loved working in his yard, growing vegetables, and making delicious green salsa. He enjoyed making guisado de res for his loved ones which he learned from his wife of 62 years. He was a very determined man and would strive to master or overcome any task set before him. His will/determination carried him until the very end.

Gonzalo will be truly missed…his great storytelling, silliness, laughter, game playing, love of classic Mexican movies and musica Nortena (rancheras/guapangos), and overall his zest for life.

Visitation will take place at The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes - Allen Park Chapel on Tuesday April 4 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A rosary will take place Tuesday evening. Visitation will continue Wednesday April 5, 2023 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church from 9:30 am until 10:00 am. The funeral mass will begin at 10:00 am.

Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Gonzalo to the American Heart Association.
