Helen M. Hawes, born on December 29, 1938, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined by devotion to her family.

Helen’s life was distinguished by her unwavering dedication to those she loved. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bruce Hawes, with whom she shared many cherished years. Helen is survived by a large and loving family, each of whom carries forward her memory and values.

She is fondly remembered by her children, Thomas (Peggy) Hawes, David (Megan) Hawes, Lisa (John) Sonley, Lorie (Harold) Hawes, Bruce Jr. (Nicole) Hawes, and Carrie (Joseph) Gulledge. Helen’s nurturing spirit further expanded to her grandchildren: Bryan, the late Jamie, Ashlyn, Nicole, David Jr., Deven, Justin, Jackie, Aaron, Jessica, Tyler, Bryce, Paityn, and Joshua, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride. Her sisters, the late Gloria Klump and Susan Allen, stand as a testament to the close bonds that marked Helen’s family life.

Helen had the best sense of humor—fun, silly, and always able to light up any room she entered. Family and friends will cherish memories of her laughter and her gift for finding joy in everyday moments. She loved playing bingo and painting, often sharing her creative works with those she held close. Helen was a devoted fan of Elvis, frequently enjoying his music. She always cherished spending time with her family, the cornerstone of her life, and delighted in watching NASCAR and the Grit TV Network, which offered her many enjoyable moments.

To honor Helen’s life, visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Allen Park Chapel - Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, located at 10915 Allen Rd, Allen Park, MI 48101. A funeral service will take place at the same venue on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
