Jack A. Read

Jack A. Read, of Trenton and formerly of Grosse Ile, passed away on September 20, 2026, at his home in Trenton, Michigan. He was born on March 20, 1954, in Trenton, Michigan.

Jack graduated from Grosse Ile High School and went on to build a long career as a truck driver, working for more than 40 years before retiring from Usher Oil. He was known for his independence and for a good but dry sense of humor that those around him came to appreciate. He also had a fondness for sweets, with Reese’s Cups holding a special place among his favorites.

Outside of work, Jack found enjoyment in life’s simpler pleasures. He liked fishing, riding his bicycle, and traveling, especially to Mexico. These interests reflected a man who valued time spent doing what he enjoyed and following his own path.

One of the accomplishments that meant the most in Jack’s life was his 32 years of active involvement with Alcoholics Anonymous. That commitment spoke to his perseverance and to the steady strength he carried through the years.

Jack is survived by his daughter, Jennifer DiGiacomo, and her husband, Chris DiGiacomo; his son, Timothy Read; his grandchildren, Julianna, Katie, Terry, Gabriel, and Tristan; his brother, Thomas C. Read, and Thomas’s wife, Laura; his sister, Nancy, and her husband, Phillip; and his sister, Deborah, and her husband, Michel as well as other family and friends. He will be remembered with love by his family and by all who knew him in the many chapters of his life.

He was preceded in death by his father, John A. Read; his mother, Juanita M. Read (nee: Shafer); and his brothers, John H. and Randy R.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at The Trenton Chapel - Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 3200 West Rd, Trenton, MI 48183. A funeral service will also take place at The Trenton Chapel - Martenson Family of Funeral Homes on Thursday, September 24, 2026, with the time to be updated when confirmed.

Memorial contributions to honor Jack’s life may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
