James M. Aponoves, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, in Southgate, Michigan, at the age of 78. Born on June 17, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, he lived a life marked by dedication and love for his family and Country.

James graduated from Holy Redeemer High School in 1965, embarking on a journey that would see him serve his nation proudly in the United States Army. After his military service, he built a successful career at Ford Motor Company, where he devoted 35 years of his life before retiring. His commitment to his work and his strong work ethic left an indelible mark on those who knew him.

An avid hunter and fisherman, James cherished the great outdoors, finding joy in the tranquility and adventure it brought him. He was known as a proud serviceman, whose love for his Country was matched only by his unwavering support for his family. James often shared stories from his life, reflecting on both his military experiences and his adventures in nature.

He is survived by his sons, Robert (April) Aponoves of Florida and Michael Aponoves of Riverview, along with his daughter, Lisa Aponoves of Riverview. James took great pride in his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather to several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating many cherished memories together, additionally, he will be remembered by his former spouse, Patricia (Weick) Aponoves as well as other family and friends.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Florence (Smutek) Aponoves, who instilled in him the values of hard work and integrity; by his brother Julius (Debbie) Aponoves of South Rockwood and two sisters Geraldine (Eugene) Gwisdala of Florida and his twin sister, Janet (Walter) Daris of Sterling Heights. He mourned the loss of his beloved dog, Sissy, who was a faithful companion throughout his life and there is comfort in knowing they have been reunited.

As we honor the memory of James, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with service, love, and unforgettable moments shared with family and friends. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, and he will be dearly missed.
