James Michael 'Mike' Topping

James Michael "Mike" Topping, 58, born in Dearborn, MI, was a Riverview High School graduate and long time resident of Trenton, MI who tragically passed away August 09, 2016 from injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident August 07 in Tennessee while on his way From Michigan to Florida. His son, Benjamin, of Trenton, MI was at his side along with Ben's mother. Mike, a USAF veteran, retired after 24 years from the Trenton-MI police department as a lieutenant, was a self-described 'computer nerd,' a current civilian Senior Police Information Specialist working at Delray Beach, FL Police Dept, an award-winning bowler, an organ donor, and beloved father. Mike became an organ donor after Ben, an Eagle Scout, signed up to donate and playfully badgered his dad to do likewise. Reportedly, less than one percent of donors actually qualify depending on the type of death that occurs and one's health history. Ben ensuring that his father's wishes to donate were honored during this heartbreaking time was especially poignant as Mike turned out to be a rare blood type that changed the lives of multiple people. Mike is survived by his son Benjamin Topping; stepchildren Damon and Natalie; brother William-Patrick Topping; sister Heather (Topping) McClure; stepsister Sue (Mullen); nieces Bridgette (McClure) Colucci, Lisa McClure, and Haley Daddario; nephew Jesse Topping; aunt Joan and uncle Ken Newton; and Eileen (Artt) Topping--his former spouse of 27 years and mother to Benjamin. Mike is preceded in death by his father James Topping, mother Rosemary (Wysong) Topping-Mullen and stepfather Hugh Mullen. Memorial service: The memorial service will take place Sunday, October 02, 2016 at the Trenton Cultural Center, located on the SW corner of Edsel at 2427 West Rd, Trenton, MI. This is a special place to the Topping family where they enjoyed many events with friends, and Ben designed and installed the raised gardens beds there as his Eagle Scout project. Select speakers and a full military honor guard ceremony will celebrate Mike's life. Light refreshments onsite will follow services. Doors open at 1:00PM. Services commence at 1:20PM. Limited Seating. Interment: Mike's remains will be interred at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan in the marble Columbarium.
