James William Gorst (JW) A.K.A. Zimpo; longtime downriver resident, passed away at the age of 65. He died peacefully in his sleep early afternoon on Sunday, January 9th, 2022. Jim was preceded in death by parents, Robert and Glenda Gorst, and a brother Alan Gorst. He has left the world behind his wife, Sheila Gorst; two children, Marci A. Gorst and Mathew A. Gorst; three grandsons, Christian, Carter and Chase Cuykendall; a great granddaughter Penelope Cuykendall, and two siblings, Julie McKenzie (Gorst) and Larry Gorst. Jim also leaves behind many extended family members and life long friends. Jim was well known for his musical talents and background in the music industry. Everything from playing, writing, producing, teaching, and engineering to a simple night around the fire playing guitar for his kids and grandchildren. His passion for music was what kept him alive, and was sometimes his saving grace. He would blare those huge outdated speakers so loud, that the neighbors would hear, and feel every.dam.beat. Jim's careers in the industry are known to most, and make for quite an intriguing story, and will be his legacy for years to come. Jim also found peace outdoors. An avid fisherman, boater, bird watcher, camper, traveler, and adventurer. He lived life to the fullest, no matter what stood in his way, as it was always his way, or NO way at all! His laughter was contagious, and he loved playing jokes and pranks, no matter the age. His life may have seemed short to many, but it was definitely lived fully. His memories will live on in all of those he has met along his journey. I leave you with Jim's favorite quote: "Change is the best thing we can learn to BE." Upon Jim's wishes, there will not be any services or memorials held. He will be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held in the coming spring along the river. We will return him to the Earth, where the wild weeds grow. Sincerely, The Gorst Family
