Janet Ellen Guilder passed away on November 2, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on December 14, 1933, in Detroit, she was the daughter of Homer and Gussie (Morgan) Johnson. Janet lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and the simple joys that made a house feel like home.
A graduate of the High School of Commerce, she married the love of her life, William Guilder Sr. on October 4, 1952. They spent 70 wonderful years married before he preceded her in death on April 21, 2023. Janet was a dedicated homemaker who also worked for Detroit Edison. She carried herself with quiet purpose, giving her time and care both to her work and to the people she loved most. She enjoyed sewing and baking, gifts that reflected her patient hands and generous heart, and she found deep meaning in the everyday acts of caring for others. Janet was known for wanting to “have a picnic”, to enjoy the outdoors and be with ones she loved. She also enjoyed playing cards and entertaining family and friends from time to time. Above all else, she cherished the time spent with her family.
Faith was an important and lasting part of Janet’s life. She was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church and later Faith United Methodist Church, where her commitment and presence were part of the life of the congregation. Her faith helped shape the way she lived, offering kindness, steadiness, and love to those around her.
Janet will be deeply missed by her family. She is survived by her children, Susan (Paul) Geurriero, Jill (Walter) Yakima, William (Brenda)Guilder, Julie (Norman) Chavka, and Carol (Evan) Varvatos. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, each of whom carries forward a part of her love, her example, and the warmth she gave so freely.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Joahn Hartman and Ann Junker. Their memory remained part of her life, and they now rest together once more.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on November 10, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at The Allen Park Chapel - Martenson Family Of Funeral Homes, 10915 Allen Rd, Allen Park, MI 48101. Janet will be in state on November 11, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, 2530 Charlton Road, Trenton, MI 48183, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m.
Janet Ellen Guilder will be remembered with love for her faithful spirit, her caring nature, and the family life she helped build with such devotion. Her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew her.
