Janet M. Knight, born Janet M. Herzog, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2026, in Charlotte, Michigan. Born on December 23, 1941, in Flat Rock, Michigan, Janet lived a life filled with love, compassion, friendship, and devotion to those who meant the most to her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and countless cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
Above all else, Janet treasured her family. Her love for her children, grandchildren, and extended family was woven into every part of her life. She is survived by her children, William (Christina) Knight of Monroe, MI; Christopher (Diana) Knight of North Fort Myers, FL; Dawn Kendall of Roanoke, AL; and Patricia (Chad) Hannahs of Charlotte, MI. She is also survived by her brother, Kenneth (Bonnie) Herzog, and sister-in-law, Jeanette Herzog.
Janet's love continues through her grandchildren: Tina Knight, Stephen (Mandi) Knight, Hollie Knight, Joseph (Ariel) Knight, Jacob Knight, Cassie (Christopher) Roberts, Joshua Szasz, Cavin Hannahs, Collin (Emma) Hannahs, Alyssa Hannahs, and Dakota Raines as well as 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Each held a special place in her heart, and she leaves behind a beautiful family legacy that will continue through the generations. The memories made, laughter shared, and love she gave so freely will forever be treasured.
Janet devoted 46 years of her life to nursing, a profession that reflected her compassionate heart and natural desire to care for others. Of all the years she spent serving others, one of her greatest honors was being able to care for her beloved mother and her brother, Dale, until their passing. It was a testament to the depth of her love and the selflessness with which she lived her life.
Retirement brought Janet the opportunity to enjoy another of her greatest passions: music. Her love of playing the piano inspired her to form a band, Country Classics, alongside three of her dearest friends. Together, they shared their musical talents and brought smiles, comfort, and happiness to residents of nursing homes. Through music, Janet continued doing what came naturally to her—bringing joy to others.
When she wasn't making music, Janet enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and gathering around the table for board games with her family. It was in these simple moments, surrounded by loved ones, sharing laughter and making memories, that so much of life's happiness could be found. These are the moments her family will hold especially close.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Martina Herzog; her brothers, Dale (Francine) Herzog and James Herzog; her niece, Eileen Przybylo; her nephew, Gary Burger; her great-grandson, Cylis Knight; and her special friend, Hoy Hatfield.
Janet's life was measured not only in the years she lived, but in the countless lives she touched along the way. The music she shared, the laughter around family game tables, and the love she gave so generously, she made a difference that will never be forgotten.
Though her family and friends must now say goodbye, they can take comfort in knowing that a part of Janet will always remain—in the songs that bring back memories, in the stories shared around the table, in the lessons of compassion she passed along, and in the generations of family she loved so dearly. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
