Jean Marie Marchyok of Trenton, Michigan passed away on March 22nd, 2026. Daughter to Chester and Marion Wolske, widow of John William Marchyok, mother to Tracey (Will), Lynn (Tom), Andrea (Neil) and Matthew (Terry). Proud Grandma and “Gigi,” to Seamus, Abbey (Ryan), Megan (Caleb), Liam, Leo, Rose, and Henry. Great-Grandma to Riley and Lynette.
Jean Wolske was born February 2, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan. Jean's early years were spent in River Rouge, Michigan surrounded by extended family, going to gatherings and meeting with friends. Jean attended Our Lady of Lourdes (OLL) in River Rouge from primary school through high school, where she met her husband-to-be, John Marchyok. They had a typical 1950s high school romance: soda shops, letter sweaters, and school dances. After high school, she worked in Detroit as a secretary, taking the bus downtown from downriver.
In 1965 Jean and John were married surrounded by friends and family. Their first rental home was in Wyandotte, where they welcomed Tracey and Lynn to the family. In 1969, they bought their Trenton home and welcomed Andrea and Matt, as well. The Trenton home would quickly become the site for gathering, celebrating, and sharing.
For 13 years, Jean chose to be a stay-at-home mom, nurturing her children. Within her neighbors, she found a supportive and strong community that she would cherish for the rest of her life. Jean was one of the many “moms” on the block. She could always be found hanging out at the fence sharing stories with her neighbors. While Jean traveled internationally and nationally, her favorite place was her home.
Throughout her professional life, Jean served her community through the public school system as an aid, across different hospitals in both senior services and as a volunteer coordinator.
Jean also enjoyed volunteering at local events in Trenton like the elections and festivals. Jean was an iconic member of her community and family. She loved her people, and they loved her. Most of all Jean loved chatting with friends and family (and a good gossip), going to book club, the public library, Ireland, food, playing Password and Scrabble, Sibley burgers, having lunch out and Jeopardy!
