Jeffrey Schmidt, born November 9, 1956, passed away on October 18, 2026, at the age of 69.
Jeffrey will be remembered as a master mechanic whose hands and heart were always at work. He found real joy in riding and working on his motorcycle, and he was often the person family and friends could count on when a car needed repairing. Whether he was under the hood of a vehicle or spending time with numerous friends at local restaurants, Jeffrey built lasting connections through the simple, generous ways he shared his time and talents.
He was also deeply committed to helping others, and for 41 years he was actively involved in and supportive of local and state AA communities. That steady dedication reflected the kind of man he was: dependable, engaged, and willing to stand beside others with strength and compassion.
Jeffrey is survived by his siblings, Thomas (Mary) Schmidt, Ellen (Michael) Cole, Beth (David) French, and Gregory Schmidt (Janis Delaney). He also leaves behind a large circle of nieces and nephews: Theresa Schmidt, Andrew Schmidt, Martin Cole, Steven Cole, Leah Sandefer, Katrina Richardson, Nathan French, Nicholas French, Anthony Kurdunowicz, Phillip Kurdunowicz, Jared Kurdunowicz, Christopher Delaney, and Rhonda Delaney. Their lives were part of the family bond that surrounded Jeffrey, and his memory will remain with them in the stories they share and the love they carry forward.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Rose Mary Schmidt; his grandparents, John and Bernadette Schmidt; and Louis and Catherine Bachner.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM at The Allen Park Chapel - Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 10915 Allen Rd, Allen Park, MI 48101. A funeral service will take place there on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 11:30 AM.
Jeffrey’s life was marked by friendship, skill, service, and family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to Lymphoma Research Foundation.
