Born on November 28, 1928, in Toledo, Ohio, Joan was the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Martin) Diroff. Joan passed away peacefully in her Southgate home of 71 years on September 9, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and kindness. Joan was a proud graduate of Holy Redeemer High School in Detroit. She devoted many years to her role as a Secretary at St. Alfred's School in Taylor and later as a Cashier at Steve's Market in Southgate, as well as working in the Willow Run bomber plant during WWII and modeling and gift wrapping at the JL Hudson store in Detroit. In 1951, Joan married her true love, Robert Dalto, and together they created a warm and nurturing home. Their union was a testament to a love that endured for over six decades until his passing in 2012. Joan's commitment to family was evident in every aspect of her life; she cherished her children immensely, and her devotion was a guiding force for her family.Joan was an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Confraternity. Her faith served as a cornerstone throughout her journey, weaving itself into her interactions with others and shaping her compassionate spirit. She had a special musical ability: playing the piano by ear. She could hear a song and produce the tune, leading to sing-a-lonfs at family gatherings. She was also known for her love of Bingo, where she participating in a “double” on Wednesdays, playing in the morning at Southgate Senior Center, taking a short break and then playing in the evening at the PRCU Hall in Wyandotte. She developed many warm friendships with her bingo friends who made a point to stop and chat with her each week. She leaves behind her loving daughter, Catherine "Kay" Perugi (son-in-law Ken) and her son, Robert Dalto, who will forever hold dear the treasured memories of their devoted mother. Additionally Joan leaves behind a “Bonus Granddaughter” Chris, who enjoyed playing Bingo with her whenever possible. Numerous nieces and nephews loved their sweet Aunt Joanie. Joan was predeceased by her spouse, Robert, her parents, and eight siblings: Joseph, Bernard, Dorathy, Horan, Edwin, Leo, Larry, Mary Ann Walker and Gerald, all of whom will greet her with open arms. Her impact on family and friends is immeasurable, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched. As we remember Joan Virginia Dalto, we honor a remarkable woman whose life was defined by love, faith, and service, and we find solace in knowing that she is now at peace, reunited with her loved ones.Memorial donations in Joan’s memory can be made to Henry Ford Wayne Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
