Joan J. Toth

Joan J. Toth, born on November 17, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, at Fountainview of Monroe at the age of 96; she was of Southgate. Joan lived a rich life, deeply dedicated to her family and community.

A proud matriarch, Joan served as a Grandma Aide for nursery schools for many years, believing wholeheartedly in the importance of nurturing young minds. Her commitment to education and care exemplified her love for children and families, and she took great joy in being a positive influence in their lives.

Joan was an active member of the Southgate Lions Club, where she shared her vibrant spirit and dedication to service with her fellow members. In her personal time, she found happiness in playing Bingo and the Lottery, and she enjoyed the lively rhythms of square dancing, which brought joy to her life.

Joan is survived by her loving children: Arlene Toth (Mark Lindman); Marion Bernardi, married to Frank; Jeannette Tobias, married to Rick; and Joseph Toth, married to Deborah. She was a cherished grandmother to Carol; Kevin; Steven, married to Jeanine; Daniel, married to Andrea; Kaleena, married to Chris; Jon (Jessica); Jessica, married to Dan; Tommy; Andrew, married to Providence; Ben, married to Nicol; Luke; and Logan. Joan also held a special place in her heart for her son-in-law, Steve Grochulski, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Joan’s legacy continues through her siblings Richard, Georgina, Charlotte, and Jacqueline. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Steven Toth, who passed away in 1976, her daughter Elizabeth Grochulski, her parents Stephen and Helen (Coe) Karabes and siblings James, Larry, Arlene, Sharon, Charles, and Shirley.

Joan will be remembered lovingly not only for her service and devotion to her family but also for the warmth she shared with all who knew her. Her proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly her family, who carry on her spirit and values.

A memorial service is being planned for a future time. Memorial contributions to honor her life may be made as the donor chooses.
