John Peter Bunarek, born on October 11, 1936, in Highland Park, Michigan, peacefully departed this life on February 7, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and unwavering dedication to his family.
John was a devoted husband to his beloved spouse, Esther Bunarek. They were happily married and were heading to their 70th wedding anniversary, a testament to their enduring love and commitment to one another. Together, they built a family that thrives on the values of respect, kindness, and support.
John is survived by his cherished daughters: Kay (Richard) Fetchiet, Laura Bunarek-Fox, Carolyn (Gary) Niemenski, and Sharon Bunarek. Each daughter carries forward his teachings of compassion and integrity, a usual signature of their father’s character. He is also survived by Esther's siblings, Art and Sharon.
He also was a proud grampie to Madeline (Brooks) Swanson and Matthew (Caroline) Fetchiet, as well as to Elizabeth Niemenski, his step-granddaughter, and Christopher Niemenski, his step-grandson. He took great joy in watching them grow and develop into their unique selves, instilling in them the importance of family and tradition.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Stephanie Bunarek, his brother Ronald Bunarek, along with Esther's siblings, Dolores, Theresa, Shirley, Larry, and Elaine. While they have departed from this world, their memories are cherished and celebrated by those who knew and loved them.
John Peter Bunarek was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 60+ years and a member of the Huron River Club in Farmington, Michigan since 2010. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
