John Dobbs, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away on December 10, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on January 14, 1945, John was known for his unwavering kindness, an endless supply of love, and an exceptional ability to fix anything that came his way. Affectionately regarded as “Mr. Fix-It,” he earned this nickname by helping those around him with his knack for repairing everything.
John had a unique physical resemblance to Jim Leland, leading friends and family to refer to him endearingly as the “Coach of the Detroit Tigers.” Throughout his life, he was not only a supportive figure to his family but also a favorite among neighbors and community members who relied on his expertise and generous spirit.
An enthusiast of motorcycles, John found joy in the thrill of riding. He also loved playing hockey and watching the Detroit Red Wings, and often enjoyed the simple pleasure of sipping a reheated cup of coffee.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Ruth Ann, with whom he shared 60 loving years of marriage. He was a proud father to Michelle (Tony) Mertic and Christopher Dobbs, and a cherished grandfather to John (Jordyn) Mertic, Joseph Mertic, and Jacob Mertic. His legacy continues with his great-grandchild, Hallie. John was also a loving brother to Carol, his identical twin Louis, Thomas, David (Penny), Maureen, and Larry. Additionally, he leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Dobbs, and his brother, Timothy.
John's memory will be honored with visitation services at The Allen Park Chapel - Martenson Family of Funeral Homes in Allen Park, Michigan, on Sunday, December 14, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Further visitation will take place at Our Lady of the Woods Catholic Church in Woodhaven, Michigan, on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a Mass at 10:30 AM.
The impact that John Dobbs made on the lives of those around him will be felt for generations, and he will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
