John Lou Swearengin was born October 4, 1948 in Lima, Ohio to John and Lucille Swearengin. He married Judy Metzger on May 14, 1971.
John’s love for family and community, shown through in several years of involvement in the Rockwood Area Jaycees, served on City Council, Recreation Director, Senior Van driver, Gibraltar Carlson clock and score keeper in many sports, and as an umpire with son Scott.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife, Judy; his children, Therese (Michael) Morgan, and Scott (Jessica) Swearengin; grandchildren, Michael Morgan Jr., Nathaniel Morgan, Brayden Swearengin, and Jenna Swearengin; mother-in-law, Barbara Metzger; and his step sister, Judy (Michael) Irwin. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Lucille Swearengin, his step mother, Pauline Sigler; sisters, Virginia (Victor) Berger, and Florence (Don) Berger.
Visitation will take place at The Ford Chapel of The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, on Monday, April 15, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A rosary will take place at 7:00 pm. A funeral service will take place Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at St. Mary’s Rockwood, where he will lie in state from 10:00 am until 10:30 am. Burial and military honors will take place at Riverside Cemetery in South Rockwood.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beacon Hospice or donor’s choice.
