Joseph Daniel Baron, age 99 of Newport, passed away September 7, 2025. He was diagnosed with stomach cancer July 15, 2025. Joseph was proud that he took only vitamins until that time. Born April 10, 1926 in Newport, Joseph was the son of Clarence and Lucy (Cousino) Baron in the family home where he resided until his death. He was a life-long member of St. Charles Boromaeo Catholic Church in Newport, where he was baptized, confirmed and went to St. Charles Grade School. He married Nona Jane Eberline, on December 1, 1945 at St. Charles. Sadly she preceded him in death March 4, 2018 after 72 years of marriage. A life-long farmer, his first job away from the farm was in his sister’s nursery on Eureka Road in Trenton. He rode his bike from Newport to Trenton. Joseph honorably served his country in the Quartermaster Corps in the Army from April 1946 until September 1947. A “Jack of All Trades” he worked for several area businesses, retiring from Smith Klein Beechan in Rockwood in 1988.Jospeh enjoyed being around friends and family. He and Nona enjoyed traveling to their cabin in Harrison, Michigan for over 30 years. In his earlier years he traveled many winters to Wyoming with friends for deer hunting. Joseph enjoyed playing euchre with friends several times a week at various area card clubs and senior centers. He was very proud that he played many “loners”. Jospeh was a member of Berlin Township Seniors.Joseph leaves behind his children: Daniel Baron, Linda (Willie) Taylor, Kathleen Cavins and Amy (Robert) Baron-Galbavi; 18 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by 2 sons Mark Baron and Jeffrey Baron; a grandson Jeffrey Owens, granddaughter Shannon (Cavins) Tymczak;2 brothers Clayton Barron and Amos Barron; 8 sisters: Adeline Baron, Isabelle Anteau, Cecilia Duvall, Leona Charbonneau, Laura Myland, Viola Bonneau, Frances Rowe and his twin-sister Elizabeth “Mary” Fountain; a daughter-in-law Pamela Baron; as well as his sons-in-law Harold Cavins, Harold Lockwood and James Nolan.
