Joseph John Basile, passed away on February 22, 2026. Born September 28, 1954, he was the son of John and Patricia (Goellner) Basile. Joe lived a life filled with adventure, hard work, and a deep affection for his family and friends. Joe was a proud graduate of Monroe Catholic Central High School, which laid the foundation for his dedicated career as a mechanic. He got his early start as a mechanic at his father’s Shell station building skill that carried through to his retirement from the US Postal Service as a mechanic. His hands were often covered in grease; yet they crafted a legacy of skill and determination that earned him the respect of many in his community.
Beyond his profession, Joe embraced life with fervor through his numerous hobbies and interests. He was a life-long member the Monroe Rod and Gun Club. He found joy in the great outdoors, relishing hunting and fishing excursions. The wind in his hair while riding his motorcycle brought him immense happiness, as did capturing life's fleeting moments through photography. Joe also had a flair for the arts, enjoying shows, concerts, and plays that allowed him to connect with the vibrant culture around him. He was a passionate cook with a deep love of food, and especially loved cooking for and feeding the people he loved.
Joe was not only a talented individual but also a person of great character. He was the co-founder of Greyhound Expressions rescue organization and a pivotal member of Narcotics Anonymous across Monroe County. His dedication to these organizations touched the lives of countless people and reflected his unwavering commitment to his own personal growth and community service.
After suffering loss himself, Joe found love again in reconnecting with his teenage crush, Dianne Rickrode in 2022. Joe quickly realized that Diane was his missing piece and the love of his life. Joe and Diane married on October 11, 2025 and were dreaming of their new life together with excitement.
He cherished his family, which included his beloved wife, Diane; children, Vincent (Amy) Basile and Lindsey (Louis) Basile-Goodlow. The joy in Joe's heart was evident through his pride in his grandchildren: Hannah, Kal’el, Liberty, and Lincoln, who brought light and laughter into his life.
Joe is remembered fondly by his stepmother Evelyn Basile and siblings: Angela Anteau, Carol Vorva, Sally (James) Ganallis, and Gloria (Stephen Kibler) Basile, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom share cherished memories that will forever echo in their hearts. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jane Henning, whose memory he carried with him throughout his life.
A visitation with the family will be held on March 19, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 PM. Both events will take place at The Martenson Family of Funeral Homes-Allore Chapel; 203 E Elm Ave, Monroe. A celebration of life will be held on April 18, from Noon to 4:00 PM at the Monroe Rod and Gun Club.
Joseph John Basile leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit that will continue to inspire those who knew him. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends as a testament to a life well-lived.
